With almost 5,000 square feet boasting wall-to-wall mirrors, three private music rooms, three dance rooms with special floating floors, a spacious waiting room, flat screen observation TVs, and much more, Dance It Up with Music, serving the community since 2005, will celebrate its new, state-of-the-art studio on Saturday, September 7, from 1 to 3 p.m.
The open house will feature a bar-b-que and lots of family fun events, including free dance classes, tattoos, games for kids, and giveaways.
“It’s going to be a super-fun event as all our events are known for. Come and check it out,” said owner Jennifer Chin. “Our studio is a happy place, free of drama. We have a zero-tolerance policy: there’s no competitiveness, no negativity, no unkind words. Dance It Up with Music is a positive, encouraging place for students and parents alike.”
Dance It Up with Music is starting many new programs this fall including its new program, “Born a Dancer,” expanding its offerings to 18-month-olds. Just a half-hour, the fun class will improve body awareness, coordination and movement, all set to music. The studio’s adult program provides yoga and hip-hop, and is always looking to offer more.
And, of course, there’s something for every age between: ballet, hip-hop, tap, jazz, gymnastics and acting is offered for ages 2.5 and older. The growing Music Program provides private music lessons for piano, guitar and voice. New is Group Music for ages 18 months to 7-years-old with the “Music Fun Time” Program.
“We’re very proud of our Classes for Boyz starting at age 4,” Chin noted. “It’s the largest boys program in the area for hip-hop and break dancing. We’re very flexible with this program as many of our boys play all-star sports, so we work around their schedules with an open class/drop-in class program.”
Chin is also fiercely proud of the studio’s performance team, which mounts events for the community or for charity. She created this team for the more serious dancer while keeping their experience 100 percent positive.
“We do a lot of charity work,” she added. “Our families nominate charities and we pick our Charity of Choice to support for the entire year. Last year, we donated $4,400 to Chad’s Heroes. In the past eight years, we’ve donated more than $17,000 to different charities.”
Chin is very choosy about her staff. All undergo background checks, and many are former students. Most important to Chin: studio teachers are role models who can teach life lessons first, dance second. She says sometimes the best dancers aren’t the best teachers, so she looks for those who bring a high ethical standard.
