For decades, anyone hoping to attend classes at Mercer County Community College would either go to the school’s main campus in West Windsor or to its satellite James Kerney campus in Trenton. Starting this fall they can go to Hopewell Valley Central High School too.
MCCC will offer credit classes at Hopewell beginning on Monday, August 29. The classes are open to all members of the community, including high school students 16 and above who are recommended by a teacher or counselor.
There are limited offerings for the Hopewell crowd in the inaugural round. Introduction to Psychology, which meets on Mondays, kicks off the offerings. Other courses include Literature Into Film, Screenwriting, Moral Choices, and American Sports History. There are no prerequisites for this first round of courses.
According to Guy Generals, MCCC’s vice president for academic affairs, the college has been looking for new ways to reach out to the Hopewell community, and hopes to expand beyond the initial few courses held at Hopewell Valley Central.

If you would still rather not drive anywhere to take classes from MCCC, the school also has expanded the number of online courses it is offering this fall. The school’s Center for Continuing Studies is ramping up its efforts to offer professional and project-oriented online programs in conjunction with Ed2Go, a national online professional and non-credit course service, and Learning Resources Network.
MCCC will offer two new online career courses, both beginning on Tuesday, September 6. Green Buildings and Preparing for the LEED Green Associate Exam will introduce students to sustainability and the green building process and prepare them to take the US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Associate exam. Cost: $695.
Virtual Meeting Planner, a certificate course, will teach students about planning and marketing virtual meetings and seminars, which are fast becoming a staple of continuing education in the workplace, according to the school. Cost $795.
