Two Reasons to Pay Attention to Sick Employees

Anybody in your office sneezing, sniffling, hacking, complaining about aches and pains, and exposing themselves to you in the process of doing it? You might pay attention — for two reasons:

First because they might really be sick and need to take some time off from work. Your business, like all other businesses large and small in New Jersey, will soon be subject to a new paid sick leave law, the details of which are still being worked out but will be reported in our Survival Guide section as they become clarified.

Second because they might really be sick and end up infecting you, as well. Unless, of course, they are coming down with flu, and you are one of the wise ones who have had the annual flu shot.

We may not have the details of the paid sick leave law yet, but we do have details about the flu vaccine and why it matters, presented by a former director of Temple University’s Environmental Resource Center, Princeton resident Melvin A. Benarde. His letter to the editor can be found here.
