Raising the Roof to Raise the Rent

Housing Initiatives of Princeton (HIP) held its annual Rent Party on October 14, when more than 120 people gathered to help us “raise the rent” to assist low-income working families in our community. Thanks to all of you, including our over 40 event sponsors, HIP raised close to $45,000 that we will now use to provide transitional housing with family-focused supportive services and emergency rental assistance to help families avoid homelessness and move towards long-term self-sufficiency.

In addition to the all-volunteer HIP board, HIP thanks our talented caterer, Blawenberg Cafe; Anne Fahey for donating the invitations; Pam Hersh for her story about the positive impact HIP is having on families; our brave bartender from Shop Rite Liquor; the Gravity Hill Band for rocking the house; Paul Jeanes of Trinity Church, our auctioneer extraordinaire, the Bent Spoon for providing the signature HIP-flavor ice cream, Adela Agnew for her help for the caterers, and August Pfeiffer for directing all of our attendees to parking.

And thanks to Mayor Lempert, the Princeton Police Department, Coach Mitch Henderson, Robin Resch, Anja Zimmermann and Ralph Neuneier, and Jeffrey Oakman for their donations to our live auction. Our whole community came together — neighbor helping neighbor to ensure our community remains diverse and vibrant.
