Meals on Wheels of Mercer County (MOWMC) celebrated its 50th year anniversary with the first annual Paws for Our Cause Pet Walk on Saturday, May 13, at Rosedale Park in Pennington. The event hosted over 100 people, many with their pups. Registrants were treated to free ice cream, face painting, and giveaways. The festivities supported the MOWMC senior nutrition services and the Pet Pantry, which provides free food for the pets of the seniors enrolled in their services.

The Walk hosted a pet food collection where generous community members donated over 240 pounds of pet food. Other notable highlights included a meet-and-greet with their event chair, Mercer County Commissioner Nina D. Melker, as well as local business owners who were present supporting the event. Everyone enjoyed the friendly pups brought out for adoption by Easel pet shelter.

Meals on Wheels of Mercer County is a comprehensive nutrition program committed to providing nutritious meals and related services, while easing the social isolation of our homebound participants. The goal of our services is to assist participants, who wish to remain in their homes, maintain independence, dignity, health, and well-being. Founded in 1973, we served over 100,000 meals in 2022 to homebound individuals in Mercer County. The Paws for Our Cause Pet Walk raised funds for the Meals on Wheels of Mercer County Pet Pantry and senior services to keep homebound seniors and their furry friends happy, healthy, and together.

Contributions are gratefully accepted throughout the year at www.mealsonwheelsmercer.org/donate-now or contact Evett Shulman, eshulman@mealsonwheelsmercer.org or 609-695-3483.
