Call for Singers

The Garden Statesmen, a Central Jersey-based men’s a cappella chorus, has announced its upcoming “Real Men Sing Acapella” program. This free, four-week event is designed for men who love singing and wish to experience the joy of four-part a cappella harmony. Participants will learn new vocal techniques and connect with fellow music enthusiasts.

The program takes place Tuesdays, October 7 through 28, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Plainsboro Recreation & Community Center, Rooms A&B, 641 Plainsboro Road, Plainsboro.

Program highlights include:

• Harmonizing: Participants will receive assistance in determining their voice part, be provided with music and learning materials for two songs, gain personalized vocal evaluations, and apply their skills in a performance alongside the Garden Statesmen for family and friends.

• Socializing: Attendees will have the chance to make new friends who share a love for singing, meet men from various backgrounds, explore the possibility of joining the Garden Statesmen, and enjoy post-rehearsal gatherings.

• Energizing: Singing offers stress relief and joy. The Garden Statesmen’s repertoire is upbeat and family-friendly, ensuring participants have fun while honing their skills.

Whether you’re an experienced singer or someone who enjoys singing in the shower, this program offers a welcoming environment to explore the excitement of four-part harmony and the camaraderie of making music together.

Seats are limited, so interested individuals are encouraged to register now to secure their spot. For more information and to register, visit www.gardenstatesmen.org/real-men-sing or contact the Garden Statesmen at 1-888-636-4449 or info@gardenstatesmen.org.

Audition

Kelsey Theater hosts auditions for “Seasonal Allergies,” written by Katherine DiSavino and Kevin Mead and produced by In Death’s Company.

“Seasonal Allergies” is a story about a group of friends in their late 30’s getting together during the holiday season. Julia and Thomas are a successful and quirky couple living in NY with their karate-loving child, Charlie. Julia, a professional chef, loves hosting their friend group for all of the important holidays. Alison, a no-nonsense and very pregnant lawyer and her florist, football-loving husband JD love to come over and eat all of their delicious food. Julia’s brother Pete, a neurotic yet lovable dentist, has not been around lately due to grappling with his recent divorce; yet when he finally decides to make a return to the group, hilarity ensues, especially when he steals a Christmas tree from Julia and Thomas’ neighbor’s yard, who just so happens to be a young widow.

Auditions take place at the theater on the Mercer County Community College Campus at 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor. Audition times are Friday, September 5, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, September 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and callbacks by invitation on Monday, September 8. Appointments are required. If you can’t attend at these times, email kelsey.seasonal.allergies@gmail.com. Video auditions are also possible.

Please complete the audition form available at kelsey.mccc.edu/auditions.shtml and attach a resume and a headshot. Copies of audition sides will be provided and are available online.

Please send any questions or concerns to kelsey.seasonal.allergies@gmail.com

Performances are scheduled Friday and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. from November 21 through 30.

Rehearsals will begin shortly after the show is cast during the weekend of September 12 through 14. An exact schedule is to be determined, but expect rehearsals one or two times per week (weekends are a possibility depending on conflicts.)

Rehearsals will be a hybrid schedule of one day Google Meet per week and one or two days in-person rehearsal (depending on conflicts). Observed holidays can be accommodated. All cast members must be available every evening from November 16 through 20.
