Villagers Theater in Somserset has announced auditions for its May 2025 production of “Pets (and Their Humans),” part of the Mike Sockol New Works Series.
Years after his wife’s sudden death, Brad is still grieving the loss in the only way he knows how: by talking it out with his pets. Titina and Mac. Meanwhile, Titina and Mac plot ways to help him move on, while debating issues of philosophy and the meaning of life. Just as Brad starts dating again and things seem to be returning to normal, Brad’s new girlfriend Stefanie is shocked to learn that Brad thinks he can talk to animals, while a bigger surprise involving her own puppy, Scout, threatens to tear their relationship apart. A funny and poignant look at the role pets play in our lives.
If you’re not looking to audition but you want to be in the crew, send an email to pets@villagerstheatre.org stating what you’d like to do!
Auditions will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, January 29 and 30. Auditions and all rehearsals and shows will be at Villagers Theatre, 515 DeMott Lane, Somerset.
In person auditions are preferred. But if you absolutely cannot make either of the two audition dates, you may videotape your audition, performing all sides, for the role(s) you’re seeking. Have a friend read all other roles, from the Sides below. Post your video online and send a link to it to pets@villagerstheatre.org. Include your contact details and the parts you are auditioning for. All auditionees must also fill out the Online Audition Form.
Show dates are Fridays through Sundays, May 9 through 18. Rehearsals begin on February 10 and will usually be up to three days per week (mostly Mondays through Thursdays, but some Fridays), from 7 p.m. until no later than 10 p.m. You must provide all conflicts on the Audition Form.
Note that due to other productions in progress and no space available, there is no rehearsal from Friday, February 21, through Sunday, March 2. All other weeks from through Thursday, May 8, will have rehearsals.
Mandatory tech week rehearsals will be Saturday, May 3, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Sunday, May 4, 1:30 to 9 p.m.; and Monday through Thursday, May 5 through 8, 7 to 11 p.m.
For the audition, prepare the sides provided in advance. For our pet actors, the theater is looking for physical body movements, facial expressions and other quirks that embody the personality of the pet that you are auditioning for.
Please email your theatre resume and headshot, if you have them, in advance to: pets@villagerstheatre.org. Please be prepared to have your photo taken, for audition purposes only.
For any questions email the director (Darren Nye) and stage manager (Lauren Walton) at: pets@villagerstheatre.org.

Kelsey Theater on the West Windsor campus of Mercer County Community College hosts auditions for “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!” produced by the Bear Tavern Project.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, setting the standards and rules of modern musical theatre. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.
Roles being cast include seven principals, of which three play women and four play men; three featured players, of which one is a woman and two are men; and a large singing-dancing ensemble with numerous small roles.
Roles are open to performers of all races, gender identities, sexual orientation, body types, and a few roles for children who can sing and dance.
Performances take place in March. Dates are Fridays through Sundays, March 7 through 16. Auditions will be held on Sunday, January 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Monday, January 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. Dance auditions will be Wednesday, January 8, from 6 to 7 p.m., followed by callbacks, by invitation only, until 9 p.m. Performances and auditions take place at the theater, located at 1200 Old Trenton Road, West Windsor.
Please sign up for an audition appointment using Sign-up genius. The link is available at kelsey.mccc.edu/auditions.shtml. Sides and audition forms will be emailed to you when you sign up for the audition.
For any questions or to schedule a virtual audition or submit a video audition due to a conflict for the audition times, please contact Susan Galli at sgalli33@gmail.com
Prepare 30-60 seconds of any musical theater song in the style of the show. Songs from the show are acceptable. Bring sheet music for the accompanist. No a cappella auditions are permitted. Dress comfortably for the dance/movement portion of the audition. Please bring along your headshot/photo and resume.
Rehearsals begin on Monday, January 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. Rehearsals will be on Monday, Wednesday, and Saturdays, and times and locations to be announced.
