To save families money, Senator Andrew Zwicker, Assemblyman Roy Freiman, and Assemblywoman Sadaf Jaffer want to raise awareness of the statewide back-to-school sales tax holiday that the legislators fought for in the recently passed state budget.

“As we get ready for the start of another school year, the Sales Tax Holiday on school supplies will keep more money in the pockets of families. I encourage everyone to shop and save on all of your back-to-school supplies during the ten days that are tax-free,” said Senator Andrew Zwicker.

Back-to-school supplies will be tax-free in New Jersey for 10 days from Saturday, August 27 through Monday, September 5. Tax-exempt supplies and equipment include: (1) school supplies, such as pens and pencils, notebooks, and binders; (2) school art supplies (3) school instructional materials, such as reference books, reference maps, globes, textbooks, and workbooks; (4) computers with a sales price less than $3,000; and (5) school computer supplies such as computer storage equipment, printers, and personal digital assistants.

“While the School Sales Tax Holiday may not make it any easier getting your kids out of bed and ready for the bus, it might help ease the expense of buying back-to-school supplies,” said Assemblyman Roy Freiman.

“This initiative will make back to school shopping more affordable for families, and I’m proud that our team was able to help provide help for residents within the 16th district and throughout New Jersey,” said Assemblywoman Sadaf Jaffer.

The sales tax holiday will apply to items bought both in-store and online.
