If you are the kind of person who likes to plan ahead, or if you are the kind who wants to spend the autumn doing sometime other than watching countless football games and interminable presidential debates on television, then we may be able to interest you in our Fall Arts Preview section that begins on page 14 of this issue.
Under the direction of Preview editor Dan Aubrey, our merry little band of arts writers offers personal overviews of the upcoming season. Elaine Strauss looks forward to a new music season with imaginative and innovative programming (page 14). Drama critic Simon Saltzman takes a thinking man’s approach in his preview of what to expect in area theaters (page 19). Aubrey takes us from New Brunswick to Princeton to Trenton and beyond in his survey of the new exhibitions at area museums and art galleries (page 24). And Robert Johnson’s survey of the upcoming dance season covers the quirky and the classics (page 28).
The foundation on which all these previews are based is U.S. 1’s events database, edited for many years now by Lynn Miller. It’s worth noting what that database supports: First the events that you see listed every week in the Preview and Survival Guide sections of U.S. 1; second the events that get listed in our eight monthly publications and our bi-weekly West Windsor-Plainsboro News; and third our online events database at www.Princetoninfo.com.
If you are an event organizer or a publicist for an organization sponsoring an event, how can you make the maximum use of our event listings? Miller has some suggestions:
It is never too early to tell us about an upcoming event. We work ahead. (In fact, our online database currently has 3,125 events going up to November 11, 2017.)
Send event listings once to events@princetoninfo.com. It is not necessary to send to the websites of our other newspapers, such as events@wwpinfo.com, or events@mercerspace.com. Your listing will appear online within a week or less and in print the week of the event.
Please include date, time, place, phone, website, price, and the important details about the event. Readers often want to see all of the information before considering attending an event.
Feel free to send a high resolution photo along with your listing (with captions). And please don’t count on us to go to your website or Facebook page to extract photos and information — so many websites, so little time.
It is beneficial to your organization if you include names and towns of performers or participants. We represent 10 towns in the area and one of the editors may choose to write about a person in their town.
Please send your event listing to us when you know about it. The eight monthly papers need listings by the 15th of the previous month.
If you have a recurring event, please send the dates of future events. It is as easy to enter one event as it is to enter 10. We look forward to hearing from you.
