In a corporate “inversion” merger, Milwaukee-based Johnson Controls is merging with Tyco in order to pay lower business taxes.
Tyco, whose U.S. headquarters is on Roszel Road, primarily makes fire alarm systems, whereas Johnson Controls makes car batteries and HVAC equipment. The $16.5 billion deal creates a combined company that will be based in Cork, Ireland, with U.S. headquarters in Milwaukee.
For Tyco, merging and moving headquarters to another country is familiar territory. The Switzerland-founded company merged with one of its international subsidiaries in November 2014, allowing it to move to Ireland to pay lower taxes.
Tyco did not immediately return a call asking about the status of the Roszel Road headquarters and the people who work there.
