When technology expert Hewie Poplock decided to cut off his cable TV service back in March, it wasn’t due to not wanting to watch TV anymore. Like many Americans, he had decided that streaming Internet video services were a better deal than traditional cable.
Poplock will discuss the ins and outs of “cutting the cord” at a meeting of the Princeton PC Users Group on Tuesday, February 26 at 7 p.m. at the Lawrence Library. For more information on the free meeting, visit www.ppcug-nj.org or call 609-423-6537.
On his personal blog at www.hewie.net, Poplock wrote that he considered Sling TV, YouTube TV, Hulu, and DirecTVNow as possible replacements and tried out each service using their seven-day trials.
“We decided on DirecTVNow,” he wrote. “It has all the major networks with local outlets. It has a good guide and is easier to change channels. It is very reasonable, as the lowest tier suits us at $35 per month. There was also an offer for a $25 per month savings for the first three months.”
Poplock wrote that he will save $80 per month while getting all the channels he needs with the new arrangement.
