For the second time in about a year, the state Division of Taxation has closed the Ferry House restaurant on Witherspoon Street for tax problems.
An orange lien notice dated October 11, posted on the door of the restaurant, said that the state has seized all property at the site and closed the business.
According to state Treasury Department spokesman Andrew Pratt, the state obtained a judgment against Ferry House Inc. and owner by Robert Trigg Jr. last year for not paying sales, gross income, and corporate business tax.
Online news website Planet Princeton (planetprinceton.com) has reported that the state halted its efforts to collect after the Ferry House filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2011. After the bankruptcy case was dismissed in June for failure to provide information to the courts, the state was free to proceed against the establishment.
According to bankruptcy court records from 2011, the Ferry House owed more than $250,000 in debts to vendors, banks, the state, and the Internal Revenue Service.
Trigg originally opened the restaurant in Lambertville in 1992 before relocating it to Witherspoon Street in 1998.
