Rider University and Mercer County Community College have announced a new agreement the adds 15 majors to the “guaranteed transfer list” for students who start at Mercer and transfer to Rider to complete their bachelor’s degrees. The total number of majors now included in guaranteed transfer agreement is now 46.
The new majors include nine in business administration fields, one in computer science, and five health sciences concentrations. Students must state their intent to transfer before completing the required credits at Mercer and earning an associate’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.5. Students will enter Rider as juniors.
“This is a sign of a great friendship, and a great partnership,” said Jianping Wang, president of Mercer County Community College, in a press release. “We are very proud to partner with Rider University to create new opportunities for our students to earn a bachelor’s degree by making the process smooth, accessible, and affordable.”
William Rue, the owner and chairman of Rue Insurance in Hamilton, has made a $2 million gift to Rider University with his wife, Joan. Rue, who is also a member of Rider’s board of trustees, earned a degree in insurance management from Rider in 1969 prior to joining his family’s company. The Rues had previously funded the William M. and Joan Rue Endowed Scholarship, and on December 5 a ceremony was held to celebrate the naming of the auditorium in Sweigart Hall for Rue.
“My wife and I are proud to financially support students so that they can share in all the wonderful academic, social and leadership experiences Rider provides,” Rue said in a statement. “I am a firm believer of leading by example, so my hope is that when these students become successful, they also will give back and create more opportunities for those who want to pursue a Rider education.”
