NRG Energy Inc. has agreed to purchase Santa Ana, California-based Edison Mission Energy for $2.6 billion. The purchase is pending approval early next year.
Edison controls power plants throughout the country, including wind, gas, coal, and oil and waste coal generation totaling 8,000 megawatts. Edison was in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The deal would make NRG the third-largest American renewable energy generator, the company said in a press release.

DrugDev, a Witherspoon Street-based data sharing company for more than 80,000 clinical trial doctors in 93 countries, has acquired CFS Clinical, a specialty provider focused on the business and financial management activities for clinical trials based in Audubon, PA.
The combined company will specialize in facilitating collaboration between doctors who are running clinical trials of drugs, and drug developers, with the goal of reducing the cost of clinical trials.
CFS Clinical will maintain its brand name and conduct business as part of the DrugDev group.

Berlin Packaging has opened a new 70,000-square-foot warehouse in Cranbury. It is one of 60 Berlin Packaging locations nationwide.
The company is also doubling its office space in Fort Lee. Berlin Packaging supplies more than 3.5 billion containers and closures annually and also provides packaging design, sourcing, and inventory-management services.
With the new warehouse in New Jersey, packages will be available within a two-hour delivery radius of Berlin Packaging in southern, northern, and central New Jersey as well as Long Island, northeast Pennsylvania, and Fairfield County, Connecticut.
