NJIT to Bring NJ To India

The New Jersey Institute of Technology has announced that it will launch a graduate study program in global technology management with the NeST Group of India next spring. The program will teach information technology to NeST employees and other Indian information technology professionals who meet NJIT requirements for graduate degree study.

As outsourcing in tech jobs has become increasingly prevalent in the past decade, NJIT wants to help Indian companies develop more efficient and competitive business practices. According to Javad Hassan, CEO of the NeST Group, the program “is essential to the NeST Group, as it also will be for many other companies with operations in India, in the U.S. and globally like ours.”

NJIT president Joel Bloom said the program is meant to help smaller companies compete against giants such as Google and IBM, which have built their own offshore facilities as part of a workforce globalization strategy. “The strategies of these smaller enterprises and large companies require a new skill set capable of managing a global workforce,” Bloom said. “Successful outsourcing involves more than the prerequisite technical skills.”

The 12-credit graduate program will begin with two courses in the spring, followed by two courses in the fall. Each course will run for 45 hours and be taught by NJIT faculty at NeST headquarters in southern India.

Gale Spak, associate vice president of continuing and distance education at NJIT, called the program “a response to the evolving needs of employees and employers alike and an innovative partnership between an American university and a large Indian corporation.”
