Every major car company is working on self-driving technology for cars, and driverless cars seem to be the inevitable future of automotive technology.
One of the pioneers of the field, Princeton professor Alain Kornhauser, will give a presentation on Monday, January 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Mercer County Community College Student Center.
Kornhauser (U.S. 1, May 27, 2015) has been researching self-driving vehicles since 1971 and founded and has led the Princeton Autonomous Vehicle Engineering (PAVE) team since 2005.
In 1979 Kornhauser founded ALK Technologies, a company that enhanced and utilized computerized mapping systems to create advanced train control centers. ALK, which Kornhauser sold in 2012, has created a standard digital map database that is used today by essentially every railroad and trucking company in North America.
In 2014, he co-founded two new firms, Soterea, which specializes in autonomous vehicles and, IndigoEnergy, which specializes in renewable energy. He also is board chair of the Advanced Transit Association and editor of the SmartDrivingCars e-mail newsletter.
