After five years as chair of the board at Newgrange School of Princeton, Inc. Ann Robinowitz passed the gavel to incoming chairman Deepak Mehta during the board’s January meeting.
The Newgrange School of Princeton is a network of educational environments and support resources for students with learning disabilities.
“Ann was, and continues to be, a tireless advocate for students of all ages who have learning differences,” said Tim Viands, head of schools/executive director of The Newgrange School of Princeton, Inc. “Over the years she helped forward the Newgrange mission on so many levels — through education, teacher training, community outreach, programming, and fundraising. We will miss her passion and leadership in this role.”
Robinowitz, who holds a master’s degree in learning disabilities along with a Dyslexia Specialist Certificate, founded the Academy Learning Center in Randolph, and later the Academy Preschool and the Academy Kindergarten, all of which serve learning-challenged students. For more than 20 years she has been actively involved with the New Jersey Branch of the International Dyslexia Association and has presented workshops nationally about early literacy and related topics.
Among the accomplishments of Robinowitz’s tenure was the creation of the Laurel School, founded in 2012 and based on Mapleton Road.
While Robinowitz will step down as chair, she says will continue to play an active role on the board and as a member of the executive committee.
“I am leaving the board in Deepak Mehta’s very capable hands,” said Robinowitz. “He brings a wonderful perspective as a parent of one of our students, a businessman and a board member.”
Mehta is vice president QA/QC of Advanced Analytical Testing Laboratories and has a seventh grader at the Laurel School.
