Central New Jersey is the state’s Farm Belt, and much of the pasture is trod by horses. Whether you know it or not, New Jersey’s state animal is responsible for more than $4 billion in business here.

In honor of the horse’s necessity to the public good, the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual HorseXpo at the Hunterdon County Fairgrounds in Ringoes on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, at 9 a.m. Cost: $5 per car, per day. Visit www.hunterdon-chamber.org, or call 908-782-7115.

Rides, dressage and competitive horsemanship demonstrations, more than 100 vendors, 4-H exhibitions, and a host of seminars will take place indoors and outside.

According to the American Horse Council, the state’s horse industry employs nearly 60,000 people caring for 83,000 horses.
