Giving 24/7 Sports A 360-Degree View

Many sports fans viewing games live have wished they could switch seats in the middle of the game, getting another perspective on the action, or see instant replays whenever they wanted instead of being at the mercy of the jumbotron.

Wim Sweldens made that fantasy a reality when his company, Kiswe Mobile, created a mobile device application that gives fans control of interactive video. He debuted the technology in May at a professional women’s basketball game. Anyone within a 75-mile radius of the game who had the application could view the game from multiple angles, switching cameras any time they liked.

Swelden’s next goal is to put this technology in the hands of the average sports fan. His aim is nothing less than a revolution in the business of sports broadcasting, and the broadcast of live events in general.

Sweldens will speak Thursday, November 6, at 4:40 p.m., at Princeton University’s Carl A. Fields Center in a talk sponsored by the Keller Center. Admission is free. For more information, visit www.kellercenter.princeton.edu or E-mail kellrctr@princeton.edu.

Swelden is the founder and CEO of Kiswe Mobile, the company developing the technology and business model of his sports revolution (www.kiswe.com). The Belgian-born businessman, who earned his PhD in computer science from the University of Leuven, Belgium, was formerly the founder and leader of Alcatel-Lucent Ventures, better known as Bell Labs Skunkworks.

He is also entrepreneur-in-residence at Columbia University Business School. Kiswe has operations in Murray Hill, New Jersey, and Bethesda, Maryland.
