Genesis Biotech Plans Worker Housing

Genesis Biotechnology Group has received approval to build a mixed-use development on Klockner Road that will incorporate housing for its employees. The Hamilton zoning board approved the 89,000-square-foot Polaris Executive Center on October 28.

Genesis employees will have first crack at the 44 apartments in the complex before they are offered to the general public. The proposed apartments are less than a quarter-mile away from the adjacent Genesis Biotech headquarters, putting them within easy walking distance.

Genesis, a group of biotech companies, has around 600 employees in the area, and told the zoning board they were having a difficult time finding housing in the existing market.

Polaris will also include 13,000 square feet of retail space in addition to the apartments.

Genesis Biotechnology Group includes an array of research companies involved in chemistry, biotechnology, genome research, nanotechnology, computer science, and other fields. Its 47-acre Waterview Drive campus just off Klockner Road includes 120,000 square feet of office and lab space. It also has a building on Kuser Road, where its largest company, Medical Diagnostics Laboratories, and several other subsidiaries are located.
