Daytop NJ Merges With Crawford House

Crawford House, a halfway house for women on Sunset Road in Skillman, has merged with Mendham-based Daytop New Jersey, a drug and alcohol addiction treatment program for teens, adults, and women.

Established more than three decades ago, the Crawford House helps women learn healthy behaviors, achieve active employment, and build sober support systems.

As a result of the merger, the Crawford House location will operate as “Daytop New Jersey at Crawford House.” As before, the program will be for women clients and will offer a six-month halfway house program to women over 18 who are indigent, homeless, free of substance abuse for two weeks, and employable.

“Daytop New Jersey has an extensive history of providing effective recovery programs to adolescents and young adults, including educational services,” says James Curtin, chief executive officer of Daytop New Jersey. “This strategic alliance creates a foundation for the new organization to provide drug and alcohol treatment to many individuals at a time when drug abuse, especially heroin, is at epidemic stages, destroying individuals, families, and communities throughout New Jersey.”

Meanwhile, Crawford House will proceed with its annual spring dinner Thursday, May 8, at 6 p.m. at the Princeton Marriott at Forrestal. Tickets are $125. The event will feature dinner, music, and a silent auction. The dinner will honor supporters of the group’s recovery programs: the congregation of Blawenburg Reformed Church and Shirley and Art Martin.

Crawford House’s program follows the 12-step model. Last year the nonprofit group treated 93 women from around the state. In addition to Crawford House, Daytop operates outpatient facilities in Hunterdon and Morris counties, treating about 500 clients a year.
