The Institute for Language and Math, which provides an after-school homework help program and reading enrichment program for kids pre-K to ninth grade, has opened at 379 Princeton-Hightstown Road.

The institute is run by Farah Yasmeen, a professor at Devry University, who holds a master’s in English and education.

The school is part of the Institute for Islamic Studies, the organization that is looking to build a 15,000-square-foot house of worship and community center on Old Trenton Road in West Windsor (U.S. 1, March 30).

Eighteen months after California-based Ligand Pharmaceutical acquired Cranbury-based Pharmacopeia for $70 million, the company has closed its New Jersey facility and now operates in La Jolla and San Diego.

Ligand develops drugs for patients with muscle wasting, frailty, hormone-related diseases, osteoporosis, inflammatory diseases, and anemia. It acquired Pharmacopeia for its expertise in developing drugs for arthritis, psoriasis, and similar conditions.

The move-out follows a major round of layoffs here last March, when the company annunced its eventual move.

Albert Rosenthal on April 20. He started his career as a dermatologist in Trenton in 1958 and retired from Lawrenceville Dermatology in March.
