The Princeton Regional Chamber of Commerce has selected John Thurber, vice president for public affairs at Thomas Edison State College, as the new chair of its board of directors. Thurber will serve a two-year term.
The formal introduction will take place with a reception on Wednesday, January 29, at Mercer Oaks Golf Club in West Windsor. Thurber has served on the boards of many organizations as well as on the Chamber’s board of directors for the past three years.
The previous chair, Patrick Ryan, will remain on the board of directors.
Prior to his appointment as vice president for public affairs of Thomas Edison State College, Thurber was the founding director of the College’s John S. Watson Institute for Public Policy and established its predecessor, the Trenton Office of Policy Studies. Under his leadership, the Institute provided policy research and analysis for leaders in the public and nonprofit sectors and developed innovative new programs, earning the college local and national awards and recognition. He earned a B.A. in economics from Hampshire College and a J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law — Newark.
Thurber currently serves as chairman of the Mercer County Improvement Authority and is a member of the board of directors of Capital Health System and the Wells Fargo Regional Foundation. He is past president of the board of directors of the Trenton Downtown Association and of the Mercer County board of the American Cancer Society. He is a member of the Princeton Rotary Club and Elder of Nassau Presbyterian Church. He resides in Lawrence Township with his wife, Connie Cloonan, and two adult children.
