Retail book giant Barnes & Noble recently converted part of its North Brunswick store, at 869 Route 1, into a “Barnes & Noble @ School” store, which will cater to teachers and families.

To introduce the new section (expected be ready for this fall’s back to school shopping season) the store will hold an open house on Saturday, August 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. Certified school and preschool educators will be eligible for a free Barnes & Noble Educator Card, providing a 20 to 25 percent discount.

The North Brunswick location is one of 50 in the nationwide chain and one of 18 in the Northeast to have the section.

New products will include classroom decorations, lesson-based activities, educational DVDs, teacher resource materials, professional development, and special needs books.

The conversion will also include an expanded selection of workbooks, arts and crafts supplies, flash cards, games, toys, and kits for educational and recreational use at all grade levels.

“We want educators to know that we go way beyond just selling books,” says store manager Carmen Taliercio.
