It is back to school season, and not just for the kids, either. Fall registration is open at the Princeton Adult School (PAS), where anyone 18 and older may enroll in one or more of the many course offerings available.
The course listing includes 23 lecture and discussion courses; 29 language courses (including English for Speakers of Other Languages); 13 creative arts workshops; 30 exercise, fitness, and recreation activities; seven studio music and performing arts classes; ten cooking courses, ten business and professional courses; and 17 computer and technology courses.
“Every year we aim for the proverbial something for everybody,” says Lawrence Parsons, president of PAS. Students can register online or by mail through the adult school catalog. PAS is a self-supported, non-profit organization administered by a volunteer board that first offered 20 classes in 1939. In the previous two academic terms there were more than 200 different courses in each term, with a total enrollment of around 4,500 students. PAS teaches are professionals in their field and include faculty members from Princeton and Rutgers Universities.
Popular courses fill up fast, such as one that explores the special collections at the Princeton University Library. Classes are usually held Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Princeton High School beginning October 2. In-person registration is required for English for Speakers of Other Languages courses, which will be on Thursday, September 11, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. In-person registration is also available for other foreign language students.
