Call for Art

The West Windsor Arts Council is accepting submissions for its annual member show. This year’s theme is “Fiction: The Art Show.” Works should be focused on the concept of real versus imaginary and the merging of visual arts and literary arts. The deadline for submissions is Sunday, February 24. There is no fee for submission, but artists must be a member of the West Windsor Arts Center. Visit www.westwindsorarts.org.

The Lawrence Library is accepting entries for its annual TrashedArt contest, which celebrates Earth Day exhibiting art made from trash. The contest is limited to one entry per artist. Classes or groups can participate if they register ahead of time by calling 609-883-8292 or emailing jcuddahy@mcl.org. Art must be submitted between March 20 and 27. Selected entries will be on display throughout April. All entries must consist of at least 75 percent recycled content. Natural material such as rocks, dirt, bones, and sticks are not considered recycled. Entry forms are available at the Lawrence Library, located at 2751 Brunswick Pike. Visit www.mcl.org.

NAMI NJ is hosting a contest to design a mural for the front wall entrance of its office. Artists can submit their proposals in color on 11×17 bond paper, as well as a 250-500 word essay about the piece’s theme and its relationship to NAMI. The theme is open, but it should be uplifting, hopeful, and supportive. Submissions can be sent to NAMI NJ Expressive Arts Mural Contest, 1562 Route 130, North Brunswick, NJ 08902. Deadline for submissions is Friday, March 1.

An exhibit featuring the top 10 proposals will be displayed at NAMI NJ’s annual meeting and will tour parts of the state. The winner will be announced mid-March, and the unveiling of the mural will be held at NAMI’s open house on Saturday, May 18. Materials to complete the mural will be supplied to the winner by NAMI. Contact Lisa Powell at lpowell@naminj.org or 732-940-0991.

The Ewing Library is seeking interesting collections for the library’s display cases and art exhibit area. For more information, contact Cheryl Urbano at 609-882-3130.
