Audition

Villagers Theater has announced auditions for “Guard Bitches,” a new play by Molly Kate Babos granted a full production as the winner of the 2023 Mike Sockol New Works Series. Open auditions will be held on Friday, February 23, from 7 to 10 p.m. and Saturday, February 24, from 4 to 10 p.m., at the theater, located at 475 DeMott Lane in Somerset.

Callbacks, if necessary, will be held in-person on Sunday, February 25, from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., by invitation only. A mandatory first read through takes place Thursday, February 29. Rehearsals and other training start Saturday, March 2, and run through May 9. Performances takes place Fridays through Sundays, May 10 through 19.

All those auditioning will be asked to read from the script (sides will be provided) in addition to testing your ability to do basic Color Guard moves. Photos and/or video of auditionees may be taken for reference purposes. For those unable to attend in-person, video auditions may be submitted as an alternative by 5 p.m. on Thursday, February 22, to guardbitches@villagerstheatre.org

Seventeen-year-old Julie wants to be captain of the color guard, and Julie always gets what she wants. The only problem? McKayla, a well liked but unassuming junior on the team has been chosen for the role. Now it’s up to Annika, the team’s resident screw-up, to make sure the girls don’t murder each other. Is all of this worth a plastic trophy and a chance to go down in northeast color guard history? Yeah. Kind of.

Although this is a comedy/drama, the subject matter includes scenes implying alcohol and marijuana use, sexuality and strong language. You must be 16 years of age or older to audition. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must sign a permission form to audition and/or perform. All roles are open to all auditionees regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender identity and expression. Both parent and high school roles will be expected to perform basic Color Guard moves with pole/flag, with training from Color Guard Choreographer.
