Compose

Applications are now being accepted for the 2017 NJSO Edward T. Cone Composition Institute, a program that promotes new music and emerging composers. The Institute will select four composers to participate in compositional evaluations, consultations, rehearsals, and career-enrichment sessions July 10 to 15 at Princeton University. Applications must be submitted by February 1. More information is available at www.njsymphony.org/institute.

Internships

The New Jersey State Federation of Republican Women is accepting applications for its Dorothy Andrews Kabis Memorial Internship, which allows women to spend their summer working at the National Federation of Republican Women’s headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. It includes a monetary allowance, round-trip airfare to Washington, D.C., and housing in the D.C. metropolitan area. Applicants must be at least a junior in college or a college student 21 years of age or older. They should have a general knowledge of government, a keen interest in politics, and campaign experience. Applications must be received by Monday, December 12. For information visit www.njfrw.org.

Mercer County has launched its annual Holiday Toy Drive for local children in need. Toys can be dropped off at many county locations, including the McDade Administration Building in Trenton, the Park Commission in Hopewell, the ice skating and tennis centers, all Mercer County golf courses, Howell Living History Farm, Tulpehaking Nature Center, Mercer County Improvement Authority, and Mercer County Connection in Hamilton. Mercer County Veteran Services is conducting its annual donation drive to help veterans and their families enjoy a hot meal on each holiday. The county accepts monetary donations that go toward the purchase of ShopRite gift cards veterans can use to purchase holiday meals. If you wish to donate, make your check payable to Mercer County Trust Fund. Mail your donation to the Mercer County Division of Veteran Services, 2280 Hamilton Avenue, Hamilton, NJ 08619.
