Filmgoers will not only be able to see a new movie at the Garden Theater this Friday, December 16, but also talk to one of the film’s producers afterward.

Peter Saraf, right, will visit the Garden to promote his latest film, Loving, which will be screened at 7 p.m. After the film, Saraf will take questions from the audience about the making of Loving and the story that inspired the movie.

The historical drama — staring Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga, shown above — tells the true story of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving. Richard was a construction worker and Mildred was a family friend. They famously fought for their right to marry in the 1950s in Virginia, when state law prohibited interracial marriages. The couple took their case to the Supreme Court, where they successfully overturned Virginia’s law in 1967.

The film has been celebrated since its premiere at Cannes. Saraf has produced many popular indie titles over the past 20 years, including Charlie Kaufman’s Adaptation, Safety Not Guaranteed, and the Oscar-nominated film Little Miss Sunshine.

Producer Peter Saraf, Princeton Garden Theater, 160 Nassau Street, Princeton. Friday, December 16, 7 p.m. www.princetongardentheatre.org.
