Janet Perkins, the executive director of the Princeton Girlchoir since 1989, will step down from that post at the end of the current season.
During Perkins’ 17 years with the Girlchoir, the program has expanded from one choir with 20 girls to six choirs with more than 250 participants.
The choir has traveled internationally to festivals in Sweden; France; and other European countries.
Perkins led the choir through the retirement of its founder and first artistic director, Jan Westrick, and the transition to its current artistic director, Lynnel Joy Jenkins.
Both Jenkins and Westrick expressed their gratitude for Perkins’ contributions. “I’ll always be indebted to Janet for her invaluable dedication, service, and just plain hard work! I couldn’t have had a better partner in this venture called the Princeton Girlchoir,” Westrick said in a press release.
Added Jenkins, “Janet’s warmth and dedication, not to mention her ability to play a multitude of roles, have sustained the choir through its travels, its work, and its music making. She leaves us with a strong organization and some very special footprints to follow.”
The search for a successor has begun, with a new director expected to be announced by this summer.
