A Benefit for Housing Initiatives of Princeton, At the Edgehill Street Home of William & Joanna Storrar
Is that a look of displeasure from our host for the Downton Abbey Season III premier party? Is there a problem with our tie? Or is there a problem in the kitchen and someone is trying to rescue the evening with a “picnic?” No, thankfully, no problem, at all. And William Storrar, the director of the Princeton Center for Theological Inquiry, was simply striking his best “lord of the manor” pose in keeping with the theme.
Storrar, who is Scottish, hung the Union Jack outside his house for the event, but the real allegiance of the evening was to the Housing Initiatives of Princeton, a non-profit that provides transitional housing to low-income, working families who may be one bad break away from being homeless.
Since 2004 eight families have lived in HIP homes, including 17 children who have thrived in the area’s public schools (and three became merit scholars at private schools). Two of HIP kids enrolled at Princeton (one has a BA), and others are studying at North Carolina A&T and Widener. To them all we say “cheers!” and please visit www.housinginitiativesofprinceton.org.
