Barnes & Noble Princeton invites customers to give the gift of reading to people in need during the company’s annual Holiday Book Drive, continuing through Thursday, December 12. The Barnes & Noble Holiday Book Drive provides customers the opportunity to donate books to non-profit organizations. Last year the Holiday Book Drive benefited more than 550 charitable organizations that provide services to people in need across the country.

This year, Barnes & Noble Princeton, located at Market Fair, 3535 Route 1 South, West Windsor, will be collecting books for YWCA Princeton.

Programs at YWCA Princeton are mission-based and are designed to empower and inspire women and their families through offering affordable childcare, English as a Second Language classes, a Breast Cancer Resource Center, computer skills classes, speaker events, and more. The Jewish Center in Princeton is organizing a Winter Clothing Drive to support individuals and families in need. The local community is asked to donate new or gently used coats, jackets, scarves, gloves, and other winter wear.

This clothing drive is in collaboration with the Princeton Police Department, Cornerstone Community Kitchen, and The Refugee Resettlement Committee.

The drive runs through Tuesday, December 31. Donations are accepted Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon at The Jewish Center, 435 Nassau Street, Princeton.

Baxter Construction is an official Toys For Tots dropoff site.

The company is collecting new, unwrapped toys, books, and stocking stuffers for children from newborns to 14 years of age.

Baxter Construction is located at 31 West Broad Street, Hopewell. Drop off toys through Wednesday, December 4, on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Lawrence-based nonprofit HomeFront holds a series of events in conjunction with National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week.

Learn more about HomeFront’s work at a tour of its Family Campus and information session for prospective volunteers on Monday, November 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The campus is located at 101 Celia Way, Ewing.

Join CEO Sarah Steward on Friday, November 22, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for “Food for Thought,” a session to learn more about HomeFront’s programs and services and the issues facing its clients. The event takes place at HomeFront’s headquarters at 1880 Princeton Avenue, Lawrenceville.

There are also several immediate volunteer opportunities.

Volunteers are needed to help shoppers in HomeFront’s Choice Market Food Pantry at 1880 Princeton Avenue on Monday, November 18, or Thursday, November 21, from 9:45 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.

Assist distributing meals to families and individuals residing in area motels, starting from 1880 Princeton Avenue, on Tuesday or Thursday, November 19 or 21, from 3 to 5 p.m. Or help prepare Thanksgiving food baskets on Wednesday or Friday, November 20 or 22, from 1 to 4 p.m., also on Princeton Avenue.

Finally, support HomeFront financially by shopping for handmade, artisan gifts at its holiday market on Saturday and Sunday, November 23 and 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1880 Princeton Avenue. Or run the Trinity Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, in Princeton. HomeFront is one of the beneficiaries of the annual 5K race. Visit www.trinityturkeytrot.org to sign up.
