Every year McCaffrey’s Food Markets has a community-giving day — otherwise known as “Fight Cancer Day” — when five percent of that day’s net sales are donated to various cancer charities. This year’s Fight Cancer Days were held on October 18 in Doylestown and October 21 at all other markets.
In honor of the day, the markets offered in-store specials, held a raffle, and had a variety of family entertainment – from face painting to bounce houses. Local health care professionals volunteered during the day as well selling raffle tickets, bagging groceries, and publicizing their services.
This year McCaffrey’s donated to St. Mary Regional Cancer Center (Newtown & Yardley, PA Markets); Doylestown Health’s Cancer Institute (Doylestown, PA’s Simply Fresh Market); Abington-Jefferson Health’s Cancer Institute (Blue Bell, PA Market); and the American Cancer Society (NJ Markets).
Fight Cancer Day has been held annually since 1992, when McCaffrey’s President Jim McCaffrey III began the event after his sister was diagnosed with cancer. Since its inception, it has raised nearly $500,000 to fight cancer.
