One of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s many research projects involves tracking the effects of the Affordable Care Act. A recent survey by RWJF showed that Obamacare, which is meant to provide universal health coverage, has at least succeeded in reducing the number of New Jersey residents who go without health insurance since its key provisions took effect last year.
The percentage of state residents between 18 and 65 years old without insurance fell from 21.2 percent in September, 2013, to 13.2 percent in March, 2014, according to the RWJF’s Health Reform Monitoring Survey. That was the lowest percentage of uninsured residents since at least 1990. New Jersey’s figures were similar to the national numbers.
