The New Jersey chapter of the American Planning Association will hold a tour of Frenchtown on Saturday, April 20.
“Join us on for a leisurely stroll through the beautiful Borough of Frenchtown, named one of New Jersey’s Great Places by the New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association, and we’ll show you why it deserves this title,” says an APA release.

The tour, which will be led by the borough planning consultant Elizabeth McKenzie and historic architectural consultant Christopher Pickell, begins with a brief overview of the borough’s achievements and future plans in redevelopment, affordable housing, downtown revitalization, safe streets, open space and recreation, riverfront improvements, sewage treatment, and historic preservation.
A walking tour of the borough follows with stops including: Frenchtown Barn Center Senior Housing, a 16-unit age-restricted development; the old ceramics plant, site of a proposed redevelopment; the River Mill, which has received approval for high-end townhouses, retail and office space, apartments, and affordable housing; and Shale Cliff, which has been approved for a redevelopment that will include homes, affordable housing, and retail space.
The tour will also feature historic restoration/adaptive reuse sites including the Kugler Farmstead, Oddfellows Hall, the Spinnery Building, Euphoria Spa, and a building owned by Liz Gilbert, author of “Eat, Pray, Love” and owner of the Two Buttons store.
