It’s time to get Windows 7. On April 8 Microsoft will stop supporting Windows XP, an operating system that, despite being used by only around 20 percent of the market, is the software of choice for many businesses. As of that date, the company will no longer provide technical support or updates for XP, which was launched in 2001.
Typically software updates close security vulnerabilities. When these regular updates end next spring, XP machines and the businesses where they are used will be more vulnerable to hackers.
The Somerset County Business Partnership Technology Special Interest Group will offer a business continuity workshop, “The End is Near for Windows XP” on Tuesday, October 15, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at 360 Grove Street, Bridgewater. Free for members, $30 nonmembers. 908-218-4300. bit.ly/10-15techsig.
This seminar will provide advice and instruction on strategies for winding down from XP and moving to other operating systems. Ten tips for optimizing the PC, regardless of which operating system is in use, will also be provided.
