Honey Brook Organic Farm: A model for CSA success

Honey Brook Organic Farm, in Pennington and Chesterfield, NJ, is the oldest certified organic Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program in the Garden State, having been established by Jim Kinsel over 21 years ago. A CSA program is a type of “cooperative,” where a consumer financially commits to a full season of produce months before the growing season.

Each week from June to November members receive a variety of freshly harvested crops, including vegetables, small fruits, herbs, and flowers. Since our produce is harvested daily, our members enjoy the freshest, most nutritious produce available at an affordable price.

At both farms, we offer two share options: an individual share (designed to accommodate one to two people) or a family share (perfect for four to six people). We also offer Delivered Boxed Shares (sized for a family of four) for pick-up at convenient sites in New Jersey and Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Our 2013 membership application on our website has details about membership fees, etc.

More than 60 types of crops (including unusual and heirloom varieties) are grown. Pick-your-own crops are also a popular benefit of membership. We’re proud to say that our CSA program is one of the largest in the nation, and is a model of successful sustainable farming.
