Calls for Singers
Jersey Harmony Chorus seeks new treble clef (alto/soprano) singers. Prospective members will be voice tested to determine voice range prior to Monday night rehearsals. Rehearsals take place from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. in the Griggstown Reformed Church Recreation Hall, 1065 Canal Road, Franklin Township. Voice tests take place beginning at 7 p.m. After being voice tested, sing with the choir on the risers for several rehearsals before you officially audition.
Before coming to a rehearsal, contact Membership Team leader Diane Trampe at 908-655-1929 or dianetrampe321@gmail.com. Visit jerseyharmonychorus.org for more information.
Singers of all ages have a chance to join choirs directed by Tom T. Shelton Jr., the nationally known composer and director who is a professor at Westminster Choir College of Rider University in Lawrence Township.
The Rider University Chorale welcomes singers in the greater Princeton area. There are no auditions: placement is guaranteed. It meets Tuesdays, 7 to 9 p.m., February 3 to April 14 in Gill Chapel. The repertoire will include classical, contemporary, and musical theater selections. On Sunday, April 19, at 3 p.m. the chorale will present “Joy is Everywhere,” a musical celebration of the “ups and downs” experienced on the journey through life. For students, faculty, and staff, chorale participation is free. For alumni and community members, the cost is $150 per semester. For details, contact Professor Tom Shelton at tshelton@rider.edu.
Adults, youth, and children — of any faith — are invited to join the choirs directed by Shelton at Princeton United Methodist Church, located at the corner of Nassau Street and Vandeventer Avenue in Princeton. The Intergenerational Choir rehearses on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. School-age children rehearse on Wednesday afternoons.
With a bachelor of music degree and a master’s degree in choral conducting from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Shelton teaches classes in conducting, sacred music, and music education. A past national president of the American Choral Directors Association, he has conducted festival and honor choirs in 20 states and abroad, most recently for a Treble Choir Festival in Carnegie Hall.
