When Fiona Clark came to the West Windsor Arts Council earlier this year as its first ever artist-in-residence, she set out to make her mark by inviting other artists to do the same.

The result is WWAC’s Annual Member Show, on view now through June 1. A free opening reception takes place Friday, April 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Fiona Clark is the Artist in Residence at West Windsor Arts.

“For this show, artists were asked to submit work that employs different techniques of mark-making,” explains Clark, who served as the juror of the show. “What that means is open to interpretation, but there needs to be some kind of a tactical component — brushstrokes, pencil marks, fingerprints, woven fabric. It will be exciting to see the artist’s hand in their artworks.”

Clark, who continues in her role at WWAC through April, graduated cum laude in 2007 from the University of Hartford Art School with a bachelor’s in visual communication design and minors in photography and art history. She moved to New York City post graduation to pursue a career in graphic design. Clark moved back to New Jersey in 2020 and now creates out of her home studio in Princeton.

'A Wander Through the Water Lilies' by West Windsor Arts' Artist-in-Residence Fiona Clark is featured at the WWA as part of its annual celebration of member artists.

“Prior to making the leap to full-time art five years ago, I worked as an art director in the fashion industry for brands such as Kate Spade, Coach and Kenneth Cole,” Clark said. “Once I found my creative voice, I sought to put it across different mediums, paintings and drawings, ceramics and public art, and I decided it was a good time to become a full-time artist.”

West Windsor Arts has a long-standing tradition of celebrating and promoting its artist members. Member art shows play an important role in boosting community engagement for an arts center, but they also support local artists by giving them the opportunity to showcase their work.
