Opportunities

What are the local opportunities in this week's issue of U.S. 1. News?

Launched in 2003, the Princeton Student Film Festival features films by local, regional, and international students, and provides an opportunity for young filmmakers to screen their work to a broad audience and receive feedback. Selected films include a variety of genres and styles and are intended for a teen and adult audience.

Films selected as part of the festival will be shown to a general audience in the library’s Community Room on July 31. Filmmakers are invited to participate in Q&A sessions following the screenings, but filmmaker attendance is not required.

Films must be submitted by completing the entry form available at princetonlibrary.org/psff. Additional information about the festival and selection process is available at princetonlibrary.org/psff.

Call for Donations

The Mercer County Planning Department and the Mercer County Park Commission are hosting a bike drive for the benefit of the Boys & Girls Club Bike Exchange. This non-profit run by 50 volunteers collects, conditions, and sells used, quality bikes to people in the Trenton area.

Since 2009 the Bike Exchange has repaired, reconditioned, and sold more than 27,000 donated bikes, raising more than $1,600,000 for Boys & Girls Club after-school programs which serve more than 700 children daily. Over the past several years the Bike Exchange has given away approximately 300 bikes annually to youth in Trenton and urban areas throughout New Jersey.

The Bike Exchange also trains interested students in bike repair through their internship program.

Bike donations help support these efforts and are tax-deductible. The exchange takes place Saturday, April 13, from noon to 4 p.m. at the following locations: Ranger Headquarters, Mercer County Park, West Windsor and Historic Hunt House, 197 Blackwell Road, Pennington.

The Boys & Girls Club enables young people to develop their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. The Club provides safe havens, academic enrichment, and recreational activities through afterschool, weekend, and summer programs.
