Are you looking for a summer camp for your children where they spend all day learning, exploring, and engaging with the outdoor world? Are you looking for ways for your children to fall in love with the wonder of the natural world? If so, look no further than the Watershed Nature Camp in Pennington, NJ.
Camp Director Tammy Love notes that summer campers will focus much attention on the water. “They’ll be playing more in the stream, and in the pond, meeting and examining life in these ecosystems. We focus on water because that’s why we are here—the Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association – to protect clean water.”
Each week will have a different theme including earth energy, outdoor skills, and of course, water. New this year will be Lenape Camp from August 11-15. Campers are encouraged and invited to come back each week for a new and different experience. Campers spend all day outside, experiencing and learning about nature.
Love adds “we also play games and make crafts outside. Your kids will come home tired, dirty and excited for the next day of camp.”
The campers explore the entire 930-acre preserve, including the forests and meadows, the Stony Brook, and Wargo Pond. They Identify butterflies, and build shelters in the woods while discovering and connecting with nature and having fun.
Day camp runs June 24 through August 20, 2014. Most programs run Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm. It is open to campers from age 3 to entering 11th grade. The programs for pre-school campers are with their parents, and run three mornings a week. There are no before or after care options. Older campers have the option of participating in day trips, as well as overnight camping either on the reserve or off-property, depending on the age of the camper and the week’s program.
Campers are to pack a lunch, two snacks, a large water bottle, two changes of shoes, a rain jacket, a towel, and a full change of clothes. They will go up to their knees in water to learn about water quality and to catch crayfish. Proper footgear is important.
