As the New Year reaches mid-January, many resolutions have been made, some broken. At Volition Wellness Solutions, helping clients create healthy habits for the rest of their lives is more than a resolution –– it’s a way of life.
“Our First Line Therapy program’s goal is to teach clients healthy eating, exercise, and stress-relief techniques so they are successful not only now, but for the rest of their lives,” said founder and executive director Jean Robinson. “We’ve partnered with MetagenicsTM to offer this wonderful program because it encompasses the whole person for success.”
First Line Therapy clients meet weekly with a certified counselor. Clinical tests are included and go far beyond the “usual” body comp tests. The bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) takes into account not only height and weight, but intra- and extracellular water, breakdown of fat mass vs. lean body mass, and other indicators that help counselors create a truly comprehensive health plan.
“Losing weight is an indicator of better health, but it isn’t the whole story,” Robinson added. “Moving from fat mass to lean body mass is a better indicator of improving health.”
At Volition, two professionals have been certified in First Line Therapy: Deb Halton, RPh, a licensed pharmacist and medication management counselor, and Leslie O’Malley, M.A., R.D., a registered dietitian and nutritionist.
They work with Volition’s other many experts to craft a therapeutic lifestyle program tailored to each client.
“We work on lifestyle choices to improve health and to try to avoid medications,” Halton explained. “First Line Therapy isn’t a ‘diet’–– it helps clients build skills to make meaningful changes, from stress reduction to healthy eating, exercise, and beyond.”
Robinson selected First Line Therapy for Volition because it matches the center’s vision: to teach people how to live a healthful life through the mind-body-spirit connection and therapeutic lifestyle changes. Robinson was impressed with Metagenics’ scientifically based program because it addresses not only general wellness, but also helps those with chronic illnesses.
First Line Therapy addresses diseases that come from lifestyle choices, such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes, as well as auto-immune and neurological issues such as fibromyalgia and lupus.
In addition to the First Line Therapy 12-week program, some clients engage in a cleansing program to remove toxins, which helps reduce inflammation, swelling, and pain.
“We have a lot of tools at our disposal,” noted O’Malley. “But what’s great is that each client’s First Line Therapy is a program developed especially for them. That’s a recipe for success.”
Volition Wellness is incorporating its popular group programs into First Line Therapy.
A Group Cleanse program currently is in the works. On January 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Volition is bringing back Body, Breath & Spirit, and Art & Soul: Paint Your Heart Out. Registration is open for both programs: call 609-688-8300 to register, and to learn more about First Line Therapy.
