In late 2017 Fenwick Hospitality opened the doors of Two Sevens Eatery & Cantina — the fourth in its group of vibrant, neighborhood restaurants in downtown Princeton (277 Witherspoon Street, www.twosevensrestaurant.com, 609-921-2779). Like its sisters Agricola, Cargot Brasserie, and Dinky Bar & Kitchen, Two Sevens offers a lively atmosphere for guests to gather over good food and drink — in this instance, with a decidedly Latin kick. Its menu is a leisurely, inclusive tour of the cuisines of Central and South America, accompanied by stops for agave-oriented refreshments. The atmosphere is unpretentious and playful.

Two Sevens is a bright, spacious restaurant of 100 seats, where the area community can “Meet – Eat – Repeat,” as a mischievous arrangement of tiles on one wall invokes. Dining here is an enjoyable, communal experience, and ordering is easy and fun: with one copy of Chef Patrick Lacey’s wide-ranging Latin menu and a pencil, each table’s guests indicate how many of each item they’ll enjoy, and share, from many Latin countries.

Bocaditos (snacks) include Empanadas, Guacamole, Octopus Tostada and Queso Fundido; Tacos, made with house-pressed tortillas, feature meats like Pastor and Carne Asada, as well as fish, shrimp and vegetarian options. Masas include Salvadoran Pupusas, Colombian Arepas and Mexican Tamales. Rounding out the menu are items like Ceviche, Grilled Wings, Smoked Ribs and Rotisserie Half Chicken. End on a sweet note with Cinnamon Sugar Churros, Flan or Paletas, small Mexican ice pops, all created by Fenwick Executive Pastry Chef, Liz Sale.

In addition to Jarritos, house-made horchatas and agua frescas, Two Sevens’ expansive bar serves the full range of Latin spirits, in the Mahogany Queen (anejo tequila, velvet falernum, ruby port, bitters), Cinnamon Sour (pisco, cinnamon syrup, lime, egg white), or Chillin’ Grillin’ (rhum agricole, spiced rum, grilled pineapple syrup, lime, bitters). Large format cocktails keep the fiesta flowing: tablemates can share a Bottled Paloma (blanco tequila, lime, grapefruit, soda) or dip their straws into a Make Momma Happy Punch (mixed rums, vermouth,

As at all Fenwick properties, design is essential to enhancing the guests’ experience and embodying the concept. With two walls of floor-to-ceiling windows, Two Sevens’ colorful space is bright and engaging, with light-hearted, bilingual signage that expresses the restaurant’s welcoming lack of pretension. A wall of red, green and yellow El Pato tomato and jalapeno cans spell out “HOLA” on one wall, while another wall forms a red and green arrow directing guests to a lower level private room. The outdoor patio is ideal for a warm weather siesta. As the legend on staff t-shirts proclaims, fun-loving diners are welcomed with “Tacos. Vinos. Hellos,” in this delicious new Latin spot in Princeton, Nueva Jersey.
