Combining roaring dance-hall excitement and the musical intensity of an after-hours supper club, Haberdashery, the new club in the George Washington Ballroom of the War Memorial, makes its debut on Friday, October 17 with a red-carpet gala premiere. The event promises to be an evening of elegant and cosmopolitan jazz courtesy of the show-stopping vocal talents of the Garden State’s own Jeanie Bryson, Dizzy Gillespie’s daughter, presenting “The Dizzy Songbook.”

“I’ve played in venues around the world, but there is always something special about performing for a home audience,” says Bryson.

She is excited about her appearance at Haberdashery’s much-anticipated inaugural evening. “I’m thrilled to be performing,” says Bryson. “Historically, the classic uptowm New York jazz clubs were great Meccas for music. It would be wonderful to rekindle that kind of feeling again at the Haberdashery.”

The night has personal significance for Bryson, who will perform selections from her popular “Dizzy Songbook” concert program — a loving and fitting tribute to her father, Dizzy Gillespie, himself a long-time New Jersey resident. “This music was selected from the perspective of a daughter who has listened to her father’s music her whole life and chose specific songs that made a personal connection for her,” says Bryson. “It is really important for me to convey the spirit of my father’s music in addition to presenting a program that is at once personal and universal.”

October 17’s show at Haberdashery will be a glitzy, gutsy, swanky and, at times, deeply moving nightlife affair. The $49 ticket price includes a New Orleans-themed menu, courtesy of the Trenton Marriott.
