Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart, located in Princeton, is celebrating the 50th year of providing excellent education to young women in our community.

Says the Head of School, Dr. Patty Fagin: “Stuart is the premier independent all-girls’ school in the area, providing a rigorous academic program, combined with a strong ethical foundation and passion for social justice. This unique combination prepares our girls for the most competitive colleges in the country.”

Dr. Fagin is proud that Stuart girls graduate as “intelligent, articulate, and confident leaders who go on to make a difference in the world.” Students receive expert college guidance that begins in middle school, and Stuart girls attend remarkable colleges and universities including Princeton, Dartmouth, The University of Chicago, Georgetown, MIT, and Cornell.

An all-girls’ school fosters a culture of achievement and at Stuart, girls take on the leadership roles in all areas-from the playing field to the science lab. Without boys, teachers can focus on the way girls learn, and the girls can focus on their studies. In addition, Stuart is small enough that every teacher really gets to know every student. As a result, the girls flourish. As Dr. Fagin says, “our girls can ask anything and raise concerns they might not have in front of boys.”

Proud to be the only preschool-grade 12, faith-based, independent school in Princeton, Stuart’s diverse community welcomes girls of all backgrounds. It’s an environment where it’s cool to be smart and girls are free to safely discuss a myriad of topics, from religion to politics to ethnicity. The girls and faculty engage in topics that really matter — so ultimately, the girls are well prepared for today’s ever-changing global world.

Throughout its history, Stuart has enjoyed a reputation of exceptional academics, athletics and extra-curricular programs. Stuart has recently focused solidly on STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in order to address growing demands for more women in these career fields. From elementary through high school levels, Stuart has added new curriculum and instructional techniques as well as a STEM mentoring program targeted at raising girls’ levels of interest and confidence in these critical fields.

Stuart’s commitment to STEM is reflected in the school’s 1:1 iPad Program which began in 2010. As a leading innovator in the use of technology in education, Stuart gives every girl in grades 6-12 an iPad. Two years later, the iPad technology has “transformed how our girls learn, and how the teachers teach. Its cross-curricular applications range from traditional subjects to art, music and even collecting data on stream samples in science,” according to Dr. Fagin. “For fifty years we have educated girls to think, lead and change the world.” The results are outstanding!
