Real Estate Notes
John Terebey Jr. left RE/MAX Princeton on Alexander Road to go out on
his own in November, 2006. At the former firm Terebey’s team of six
agents had been ranked as second out of 4,000 New Jersey Re/Max agents
in volume and dollars.
Terebey chose the ERA Properties franchise "because of the tremendous
support, from technology and websites to marketing and training." ERA
is part of the Realogy Group, a spinoff of Cendant Corporation, and
the group also owns Coldwell Banker, Century 21, and Sotheby’s.
Terebey renovated the upper level of the old potato barn of the Dey
family estate for his new office, both to preserve local history as
well as retain "the charm of the barn."
He is also pleased that the property, just off Princeton-Hightstown
Road across from the Acme Shopping Center, lies within West Windsor’s
"transit village plan" and expects within the next 12 months to be
sharing the two-acre site with a freestanding Chase-Manhattan Bank,
situated closer to the road.
Terebey brought with him eight licensed brokers from RE/MAX. Starting
with this team, he will bring in new agents and share his knowledge
with them. "I’m actively soliciting new and existing agents and people
looking to get into the industry," he says. "That’s part of our
growth; my vision is to grow not only here but to expand into
different markets."
The new 2,500-square-foot space gives him room to expand, and it has
all necessary technology, as well as over a dozen computers – "every
tool an agent would need."
Terebey is currently president of the Mercer County Association of
Realtors and last year was president of the New Jersey chapter of
Certified Residential Specialists. In both organizations, he has
supported training and education.
Terebey’s parents emigrated from Russia, and his father had worked for
Squibb. He grew up in Franklin Township and graduated from Middlesex
County Community College, Class of 1974. He was licensed in 1985 and
has been a broker since 1992. He lives in Princeton Junction with his
wife, Maureen, who is the office administrator, and he has two
school-aged and two adult children.

Karen Rehrig, a former New Jersey State Trooper, has opened a real
estate service business; she organizes, decorates, and stages homes.
"Proper preparation and staging can increase prices two to 10 percent
and help houses to sell in half the time," says Rehrig. After a
PowerPoint presentation to the homeowner, she suggests changes. "After
that, if they want my help with implementing my list, I paint,
spackle, change out light fixtures, and do myriad other jobs."
