The nonprofit Princeton Integral Yoga Community Center (Princeton IYCC) has gathered authors, musicians, dancers, yoga and meditation instructors, mindfulness eating lecturers, emotional healing through dance, and much more for a full roster of activities in downtown Princeton.
Dancers have been flocking from as far away as Philadelphia to participate in the monthly Ecstatic Dances now taking place in Princeton, curated by Philadelphia’s DJ Kaellum using eclectic tribal sounds mixed with Electronic Dance Music, also known as EDM.
The Community Center also facilitates access to its programming with many of its programs offered by donation, is currently in the midst of its Annual Fundraising Appeal, highlighting its upcoming Princeton Arts Music & Poetry Fest (AMP Fest) on March 1.
A course titled “Science of the Mind: Yoga Sutras of Patanjali” just began, while the wildly popular “A Course in Miracles” begins at the center on January 22. Princeton IYCC is the only location in downtown Princeton to offer the therapeutic and wildly popular Aerial Yoga classes which, though finding their origin in the circus arts, including trapeze, are safe and fun for almost anyone. Aerial classes for children ages 7-13 have become the wildest times at the studio, while teens have been congregating for the quietest time on Saturday at noon for Teens-Only Yoga/Meditation led by Princeton High School Senior Elijah Okoye is the most serene.
The Princeton IYCC is a non-profit Yoga Community Center where anyone may take yoga classes, participate in free guided group meditations, study in the Namarupa Library Reading Room while enjoying complimentary teas, fruit, and healthy snacks, and even utilize free wi-fi, computers, and free-use iPads.
All are welcome at no fee on the first Saturday of every month for a Mindfulness Walking Meditation into and out of an authentic Labyrinth followed by a RUMI Poetry Circle with complimentary Chai, a Kirtan Musical Chant Song Circle and Community Vegetarian Potluck Dinner – all on one day of self-caring. On second Saturdays all classes are free for everyone for “Community Yoga Day,” and dancers congregate for a JourneyDance movement meditation in the evening.
All are welcome to participate in the monthly Enlightened Readers Bookclub and monthly Vegetarian Potluck Dinner-&-A-Movie gatherings, as well as the weekly Yogic Wisdom Study Group, Sundays from 6 to 8 p.m. The IYCC is open seven days a week, opening at 7:30 a.m. every day with a plethora of yoga classes to accommodate all ages, body types, conditions, and temperaments.
IYCC also hosts Meditation Courses and Aerial Yoga Intensives for the Princeton Adult School, as well as special weekly classes for the Breast Cancer Resource Center. The Princeton Adult School will be having its next Meditation Courses at IYCC beginning on February 11, and the Aerial Yoga Intensive beginning on February 16.
In 2019 the IYCC will be making its third appearance at Communiversity. You can get a good picture of the nonprofit services and what they have been doing by checking Princeton IYCC’s Annual Report on their website’s homepage: www.PrincetonIYCC.org.
