The days of a facelift being a patient’s only option are long gone, thanks to a myriad of technological advances and the caring experts at Princeton Dermatology Associates.
"Approximately 80 percent of cosmetic procedures now are non-surgical," said practice founder Roderick T. Kaufmann, Jr., M.D.. "And although Botox® is still number one, fillers like Juviderm™, Sculptra®,Restylane® and Radiesse® are in high demand."
The benefits of non-surgical techniques are persuasive. Not only is there less downtime, but the procedures are much less expensive. Most can be done at lunchtime with great results.
In addition to facial rejuvenation procedures, the most common non-surgical treatments Dr. Kaufmann performs are laser treatments. Whether it’s removing hair, blood vessels or facial veins, or rejuvenating the skin from the accumulation of sun damage, lasers are another powerful tool to achieve the best results with minimal discomfort and minimal downtime.
Dr. Kaufmann explains that fractionated or pixilated lasers are superior to previous technologies for tightening the skin and building collagen. The technology is different than the earlier CO2 or erbium lasers, which "vaporize" the skin to the second layer, and result in redness and significant downtime. Fractionated lasers produce microscopic "holes" 1/100 the size of a human hair, and they cause skin to tighten and produce more collagen over a three-month period.
"Unlike resurfacing lasers which remove a layer of skin, fractionated lasers don’t change color of skin, and there’s far less downtime. We also use laser treatments in combination with Botox, Sculptra, Radiesse and Juvéderm," he said.
To determine the best course of action, a Princeton Dermatology Associates physician evaluates each patient, discussing the patient’s goals and objectives. The doctor then makes a recommendation based on his or her assessment of how best to accomplish the patient’s goals.
Princeton Dermatology Associates was established more than two decades ago by Dr. Kaufmann to provide specialized care for the skin, ranging from medically necessary treatments for various skin conditions such as acne, rashes, sun damage and skin cancer, as well as cosmetic services. The practice also houses the Aesthetics Center of Princeton, which provides a wide range of medically supervised clinical and cosmetic services for the public.
