Places for Pilates

If you are considering this form of exercise, ask first

about an instructor’s training. If a highly qualified personal trainer

takes a one-day workshop and teaches just the very beginning Pilates

mat exercises, you may be able to get something out of it but you

are not getting the real thing. Watch out for the "one day and

teach everything" crowd. Keep in mind that a beginning Pilates

class should moves slowly — there’s lots to understand.

A recommended resource is "The Pilates Body," by Brooke Siler

(Broadway Books, 2000), $18. Siler, who owns re:AB (a studio for

PIlates

in NoHo, New York), offers photographs, clear instructions, and

caveats

for the complete Pilates Mat.
