Call for Photography
Now is the time to snap a picture for the Friends of Princeton Open Space’s “Give Thanks for Nature Photo Contest.”
The contest invites amateur and professional photographers to submit a picture they’ve taken in Princeton’s Billy Johnson Mountain Lakes Nature Preserve between November 29 and December 31, 2019. Photographers are welcome to submit up to three photographs each.
All submissions must be at least 1,500 pixels in length and must include the photographer’s name and the name of the image. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners. Entries must be submitted via email to firstname.lastname@example.org by noon on December 31.
Friends of Princeton Open Space is a nonprofit that acquires open space for preservation and works to protect natural resources.
Call for Donations
Members of the knitting circle at Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library are asking area knitters, crocheters, and weavers to donate their time and talent to help those served by HomeFront, an organization dedicated to helping the homeless and ending the cycle of poverty in Central New Jersey.
The knitting circle is seeking donations of new handmade scarves, hats, and mittens for children and adults for HomeFront to distribute.
Donations can be dropped off at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Library, 2751 Brunswick Pike, during library hours. All donations must be received by Saturday, January 11, 2020. For more information call 609-883-8294.
Call for Poetry
The Sarah Mook Poetry Contest is now accepting submissions of original work from aspiring poets in grades K-12.
Sarah Mook was a Lahaska, Pennsylvania, fourth-grader who wrote poetry before she died in 1995 from a cerebral aneurysm. The contest is held each year to encourage and acknowledge young student poets.
Students can submit up to two poems of any length or style as long as they are original. Submissions must include a cover sheet with the student’s name, grade, name of school, and poem title. Prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third-place winners in four age categories. All poems must be submitted by March 31, 2020, to Sarah Mook Poetry Prize, 896 Ferncliff Road, Poultney, VT. There is an optional $5 donation for each entry. Acting Naturally, a nonprofit performing arts program, is seeking boys and girls ages 13-18 to join the cast of One Acts, its Winter One Act Play program.
The program, which will run from January 5 through March 22, will give participants instruction in script analysis, creating characters, and listening and reacting in performance.
All participants will receive a role for the show, which will take place April 4. No experience is required. The fee to participate is $325. Registration is required.
